Expanding Equitable Access to Mathematics
Sonia Kovalevsky Days invite high school students and teachers to engage in hands‑on workshops, talks, and problem‑solving that extend learning beyond the K–12 mathematics curriculum and encourage pathways into math‑based careers. CWU hosted its first Sonia Kovalevsky Day in October 2025, welcoming participants from six high schools alongside CWU faculty and student ambassadors. Strong feedback indicates growing interest and demand.
We are seeking support for a second Sonia Kovalevsky Day on October 17, 2026, open to students and teachers statewide. A $5,000 investment will support up to 70 students and 10 teachers, helping reduce access barriers to enriching STEM experiences. This one‑day outreach event benefits the regional community while providing hands‑on teaching experience for CWU student ambassadors—future educators committed to inclusive learning. Funds support participant meals, materials, event supplies, and an opening guest speaker.
